A week of cycling which includes breathtaking views, iconic climbs with spectacular hairpin bends, adventure, relaxation and adrenaline. From the quiet shores of lake Como to the stunning views of the alps, ride the most epochal ascents of the Giro that have put the best to the test and experience the unique features of northern italy. Take part in The Granfondo Stelvio Santini, one of the most famous amateur cycling events in the world by testing yourself along some of the most famous climbs in Italy such as the Stelvio Pass and Mortirolo ascent.

Bike Tour Itinerary

During today’s warm up ride we will cycle along the old Regina road, on the west coast of lake Como. Surrounded by nature and ornate villas we will make our way up to Laglio, a perfect spot to stop to enjoy the views and have an espresso. On the way back, for those who would like to ride some extra kms, we can challenge ourselves with the climb up to the Madrona viewpoint. At the top we will be rewarded with spectacular views over Como before heading back to the hotel.

Cycling: Distance 22 km – elevation gain 110 mt | Extra loop distance:+16 km + 620 mt

Starting from Como we will ride all the way up to Bellagio, once at the top we know the perfect place to stop for a well deserved coffee and pastry before hopping back on the saddle to tackle the famous Ghisallo Pass. At the top of the iconic peak we will treat ourselves to a hearty lunch before visiting the famous Ghisallo cycling museum, a must see symbol in the world of cycling. In the afternoon we will cycle back to Como passing through Asso and Canzo. The ones going for the extra loop will have the pleasure of facing another famous climb of both the Giro and the Lombardia races which is called Piani del Tivano.

Today’s ride will start with a twist! We will jump on a boat from Como to Colico so that we will skip the busy ride around the lake. Once in Colico the route will take us north following the Sentiero Valtellina, a unique bike path that runs along the base of the Valtellina valley. As the ride progresses, the scenery slowly changes to a more alpine one as we cycle across pine forests and Nebbiolo’s vineyards. The highlight of today’s ride will be the gorgeous mountain village of Bormio. Along the way we will stop in one of the renowned Valtellina’s wineries for a light lunch and wine tasting.

Today we have planned another epic ride along one of the most iconic climbs of the Alps: Passo Gavia. This epic ascent is often included on the route of the Giro d’Italia and is sometimes designated as the Cima Coppi, the highest point of the race. We will have the chance to feel like a pro cycling on a truly unique ascent that has entered the cycling history books. After tackling Bormio and Santa Caterina we will ride up above the tree line enjoying the exhilarating views of Mt Gavia and the Ortes Cevedale mountain group.

Today it’s very important to relax our legs so that we will be at our best for tomorrow’s exciting event. Take advantage of this day to explore the area on foot and spend time amongst the locals to get a real feeling of the Italian lifestyle. If you would like us to help plan your day, a number of options can be provided such as: a gentle ride (20/30 km with some elevation), hiking, duty-free shopping in Livigno (with shuttle), downhill MTB.

The moment has arrived! Today you will be participating alongside thousands of other cyclists in the Granfondo Stelvio Santini. Are you ready to test yourself on the world-famous hairpin bends of the Stelvio Pass? You’ll be able to decide whether to take part in the Short, Medium or Granfondo depending on the kilometers and elevation gain that interests you. Our team has an agreement with the event organisers to provide full support for our guests during the event. If you decide to go for the Medium Fondo, you’ll face the epic Stelvio Climb, known by many as the world’s greatest climb. However, if you decide to go for it and sign up for the Granfondo, in addition to tackling the Stelvio ascent you will also conquer the Mortirolo with its 32 torturous turns, also known as the world of cycling’s toughest climb.
